Corvette Grand Sport

Ever since the legendary Zora Arkus-Duntov engineered the first Grand Sport more than sixty years ago, the storied model has captivated Corvette purists and sports car history buffs alike. Originally built to compete with Carroll Shelby’s Cobra and European endurance cars, the Grand Sport was developed in secret for privateer racers in 1963 due to GM’s corporate ban on motorsports. When word got out, the program was shut down after just five cars were built, but the model name was resurrected 33 years later in 1996 as a limited-production trim package before returning from 2010 to 2014 and again from 2017 to 2019. For 2027, the icon resumes its position in the sweet spot of the Corvette lineup, sitting comfortably between the base Stingray and the race-ready Z06. It provides the balance sought by drivers who lean slightly more toward the street without completely forgoing the track.

The heart of the Grand Sport is the debuting LS6 engine, a small-block 6.7-liter V8 that produces 535 ponies and 520 lb.-ft. of torque, enabling it to sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 2.75 seconds and complete the quarter mile in 10.95 seconds at 124 mph. This new powerplant extends the stroke to 100 millimeters (up from its predecessors’ 92 mm) to achieve its 6.7-liter displacement (up from the Stingray’s 6.2 liters) and boasts a compression ratio of 13.0:1—the highest in any Corvette V8. The Grand Sport touring suspension with Magnetic Selective Ride Control comes standard, providing a damping system that adapts to road conditions in milliseconds. The model’s options include upgraded tires, carbon-ceramic brakes, and aerodynamic enhancements like a high-wing spoiler and front splitter.

The Grand Sport will soon be joined by a new sibling, the Grand Sport X, which will succeed the E-Ray as the new hybrid all-wheel drive Corvette variant. It will use the same LS6 engine as the Grand Sport but will pair it with a 1.9 kWh lithium-ion battery pack.
